Charles Brunson was born on April 24, 1847, at Clarendon District, SC. He enlisted in the 104th Infantry
Regiment and served in Company "C"for about eight months, and mustered out with the regiment in
February 1866, as a Private. His brother, Joseph, also served in the 104th regiment, Company G.
After the War he took the surname of Brunson, after his father, living first at James Island until 1866, then to Williamsburg County until 1878, then to Yauhannah in Georgetown County. Married Emma "Amy" McGill on February 12, at Kingstree, SC (Mt. Zion Methodist church), by Rev. Samuel Darlington. Amy was owned by William Tisdale and went by the name of Emma Tisdale before the War, then she took the name of her father, Ambrose McGill. She had a brother named Armstrong, and three sisters named Jane, Ann, and Cassandra. Charles and Emma had seven children. Four of his children preceded him to the grave. The three who survived him were: Mrs. Mary Jones, b. March 3, 1880; Susannah, b. October 1, 1884; and Margaret, b. March 7, 1886. Charles died on September 9, 1916, at Kingstree, SC. |
