26th U.S. Colored Troops (Click Image for More Information) The 26th Infantry Regiment, USCT, was organized at Rikers Island, New York Harbor, on February 27, 1864. It was assigned to the Department of the South, headquartered at Hilton Head, SC., and were involved in numerous battles on the coast of South Carolina.
