This limited edition fine art print of a common soldier from the United States Colored Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War is a fresh example of why Dean Mitchell has amassed more than two hundred major art awards in his relatively short career.
The 1st Kansas Colored Volunteers joined the Union Army at Fort Scott, Kansas, during the Spring of 1863, and engaged in several battles in the Midwest. This soldier has survived his 'baptism by fire' and is returning home to face a brighter future.
This print is a companion piece for Dean's Fort Scott Soldier where this soldier is departing for the battlefield as one of the first black soldier to engage in combat during the American Civil War.
